Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc 2012 and a Room With a View

My first experience with a Whitehaven wine was one I will remember fondly. Lunching at Bistro 17 at Shelter Cove Marina on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina I had big expectations for a wine costing $9.50 per glass. Sauvignon Blancs from the Marlborough region of New Zealand are known for their purity and vibrance, but not all are equal.

The nose is lusciously ripe on the first swirl and sniff, and on the palate the bouquet continues to flood the nose. It took only the first swallow of this 2012 Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc to recognize the bursting melon, lime, white peach and prominent verdant lemongrass with a perfect balance of significant acidity to lush ambrosial fruit.

Enjoyed with Bistro 17′s caesar salad:

Herbaceous notes of tarragon paired with the lemongrass offers a fresh crisp, expressive wine with a beautifully long, dry finish. If you like classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, I enthusiastically recommend this one.
